There has been a long association with, not only church and cathedral restoration, but all kinds of general masonry and specialised dimension work. St. Aldhelm's Quarry is a source of Purbeck-Portland Stone yielding the attractive marine fossil Spangle bed and the relatively plain Pond Freestone, so prized for carving and monumental work.
Trading since 1918 under three generations of the Lander family, the masonry works is now under Haysom management. A large new workshop has been constructed on the site and has been equipped with new, state of the art machinery: a two metre primary circular saw, a secondary saw, a texturing machine, a polishing machine and a lathe. Each bed of Purbeck stone gives
different colours ranging from grey/blue to cream/beige. All beds are
of good quality crystalline limestone laid down in the Jurassic/Cretaceous
era and each layer is unique in its fossil content. This site provides further information about our quarries and range of masonry products and services.
